Volunteer Leadership Campaign

UH Orthopedics Leadership Council

Thank you for participating in another successful Volunteer Leadership Campaign. Your sustained commitment, expertise and passion for UH is vital to our success as we continue to serve our community. And your continued support of our annual Volunteer Leadership Campaign will show that those closest to UH believe in its mission and long-term success.

UH Department of Orthopedic Surgery has one of the nation’s top orthopedic surgery residency training programs. The Department receives over 700 applications a year for just six positions. In order to continue to remain competitive in recruiting the nation’s top medical students to Cleveland, the department continues to seek opportunities to enhance the educational experience.

In 2023, our funding initiatives focused on continuing to look for ways to enhance our residency education program. The Chief Residency International Travel Program has provided a lot of incredible experiences for our chief residents over the past three years. This program provides a diverse education, training in cutting-edge techniques and the ability to make valuable life-long professional connections. Programs such as this allow for the exchange of international residents and fellows to alternatively visit UH providing further elevation of our reputation and exchange of scientific advancements.

During his training, James Voos, MD, Chair, UH Department of Orthopedic Surgery; UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute; Executive Director, UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center; Jack and Mary Herrick Distinguished Chair  in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine was fortunate to spend one month in Switzerland during his final year of residency and he has called it “one of the most fulfilling educational experiences of my academic career.” It is our goal to ensure that our chief residents are provided similar opportunities to enhance their craft by learning from some of the best and brightest around the world.
