Support UH Portage Medical Center on Doctors' Day

Doctors make a lifetime commitment to improving the lives of others. Every day, they play a pivotal role in caring for our community. They are our caregivers, our trusted advisors, our friends and often, our heroes. We invite you to celebrate National Doctors' Day on March 30 by making a gift in honor of a physician who has helped you or a loved one.

Inspired to Support the Community

Jim Fleming considers himself the luckiest guy in the world. Originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, Jim successfully underwent treatment for lung cancer in the fall of 2020.

Jim, who served as a board member of the Portage Medical Center Foundation for nine years and was a longtime volunteer at UH Portage Medical Center, felt compelled to give back. He and his wife Judy, recently made a gift to improve breast health diagnostics at UH Portage. The stereostatic machine purchased with their gift performs extraordinarily precise biopsies and helps to speed up diagnoses. Thanks to this new tool, UH patients in Portage county who are in need of stereostatic and other cancer diagnostics can now stay closer to home.

Because of the generosity of the Flemings, a new Breast Health Center initiative is underway at UH Portage Medical Center. Funds are needed to replace and upgrade older and aging equipment to compliment the new technology made possible Jim and Judy's generosity.

Your gift will support both Edward Bury, MD, Chair, Department of Radiology and Neuroradiology Specialist, UH Portage, in his efforts to screen and detect early stages of breast cancer and Frederick Marquinez, MD, Medical Oncology Specialist, UH Portage Seidman Cancer Center. Both physicians work diligently, along with Claudine Siegert, MD, Medical Director, Breast Health Program, UH Portage to provide comprehensive breast health and breast cancer services for the greater Portage County community.
