I share the sad news of the passing of UH Rainbow friend and champion, Leonard Horvitz. Leonard and his family have been consummate supporters of Rainbow, and the Horvitz name can be seen on our UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital pediatric emergency room as well as Rainbow’s Joan and Leonard Horvitz Tower.

At age ninety-seven, Leonard died at home surrounded by his family. Most important to Leonard was his family, and he demonstrated, through his love and caring, that the community was his family as well.

Leonard was not just a name on the building where we work. I had the opportunity to enjoy his visits to Rainbow and the occasional, unexpected phone call from him. He often asked “What do the children need?” It is not surprising that on the occasion of his 90th birthday, his beloved wife Joan chose to make a donation to Rainbow so that children and families could have a lively, joyous summer celebration every year!

Thank you, Leonard, for your years of continuous support and for your transformational gift that named Rainbow’s Joan and Leonard Horvitz Tower.

Leonard will never be absent from our memories. Every day, as we work within the Joan and Leonard Horvitz Tower, we will remember his name as we accomplish the great care and live the values that define Rainbow.

He will be deeply missed by his UH and Rainbow family.
