Doyles Support Enhanced Emergency Care at UH St. John Medical Center
October 01, 2026
Tim and Debbie Doyle have deep roots in Cleveland’s West Side. Tim built a successful career of nearly five decades in insurance while Debbie focused on family and faith. Both believe in investing in community for the long term. Their approach to giving has been shaped over a lifetime.
“As a Catholic school kid, I remember a nun telling me, ‘When you give, you'll get,’” Tim recalled. “Not in a material sense, but in a deeper sense. Let me tell you – it is far more rewarding to give than to receive.”
For Tim, giving back has included founding and taking on a leadership role with the Bay Village Tree Conservancy, a nonprofit focused on protecting and replenishing the city's urban canopy. By its nature, the project pays off slowly, yet is greatly important and rewarding. In many ways, it reflects the Doyles’ belief that meaningful community investments can take years – or even decades – to bear fruit.
That same belief recently inspired Debbie and Tim to make a leadership gift in support of emergency medicine services at UH St. John Medical Center. In recognition of their generosity, the hospital’s pavilion lobby will be named the Debbie and Tim Doyle Lobby.
Introduced to UH St. John Medical Center by community leader and UH St. John Leadership Council member John O’Neill, the Doyles first supported renovations of the hospital chapel, a project that resonated with their faith and commitment to strengthening local institutions. When they learned about plans to modernize and enhance the emergency department, Debbie asked a simple question: Will this save lives?
The answer, they found, was yes. In 2024 alone, the Khouri Center for Emergency Medicine at UH St. John cared for more than 35,000 patients, including more than 10,000 arriving by EMS transport. As demand for emergency services grows, the renovation will increase capacity, modernize treatment spaces and equip caregivers to deliver timely, high-quality emergency care when every second counts.
For the Doyles, the connection between the project and patient outcomes eased their decision. “We want to support things that make a real difference,” said Tim, a member of UH St. John’s Leadership Council.
“Emergency departments are often a community's front door to healthcare,” said Brian Monter, MSN, RN, MBA, Market President, and Chief Operating Officer, UH St. John Medical Center. “The enhancements to the emergency care at UH St. John will allow us to care for patients more efficiently while improving the overall experience for patients and families. Gifts like the Doyles’ help ensure that high-quality emergency care remains close to home.”
The Doyles know the value of excellent local healthcare. Their three adult children grew up in the community and several grandchildren were born at UH St. John Medical Center. Over the years, the hospital has cared for generations of their family in some of their most vulnerable moments.
Tim and Debbie know they are not the only ones who have benefitted, and will benefit, from the improved local emergency care enabled by their support. They also know, and want others to know, that fundamental as it is, quality emergency care cannot be taken for granted.
“Recognition of this gift is low for us,” said Tim. “It’s recognition of giving that’s high. More than anything, we want to inspire others to join us in this effort.”
