Since 2008, Spirit Halloween has partnered with University Hospitals to bring both fun and funding to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s, especially during Halloween season. Through its Spirit of Children program, Spirit Halloween works to make hospitals less intimidating for both children and their families through the support of the Child Life department at partner hospitals.

Spirit of Children is celebrating 20 years of giving and have raised more than $145 million to support Child Life programs across North America at over 160 children’s hospitals. These programs provide support for art, music, aquatic and pet therapy programs, as well as the purchase of educational items and toys used for distraction during medical procedures. More than $2.3 million has gone directly to UH Rainbow Babies & Children's.

Each October, with support from Spirit Halloween, children and their families enjoy a Halloween party at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's. Families in attendance pick out Halloween costumes, play games and participate in festive Halloween activities designed to bring joy to children during their hospital experience.

Steven Silverstein, President of Spirit Halloween, feels it’s important that funds raised through round-up donations and coupons stay local. "One of the really critical aspects of the Spirit of Children program is that 100% of the proceeds that we collect in the stores stay directly in the communities in which we operate.”
