Scalp Cooling Helps Reduce Hair Loss During Chemo
March 06, 2026
Hair loss caused by certain chemotherapy drugs can be particularly devastating, especially for women. UH Seidman Cancer Center has a therapy available that can help lessen that side effect.
Scalp cooling therapy is available to patients who meet the criteria. A special cap circulates cold liquid over the scalp before, during and after chemo. This helps protect the hair follicles from the damaging effects of the chemo drugs. Some patients experience reduced hair loss while others who do lose their hair say it comes back quicker and stronger.
For many people, preserving hair during cancer treatment significantly improves their mental well-being and helps them to feel more in control of their diagnosis.
At UH Seidman Cancer Center, we combine the most advanced treatments with the deepest compassion and support. Because of you, we can focus on the patient experience, providing not just great outcomes, but excellent overall well-being, access to care and support services.
