Alexa Borally was just a junior in high school when she participated in the first cohort of the UH Future Nurse Academy. The UH Future Nurse Academy is a two-week summer program designed to give high school students entering the 11th or 12th grade a first-hand learning experience about the profession of nursing.

The experience changed Alexa’s career trajectory. She decided to make nursing her future and is currently a junior at Miami University. Over the summer, she served as a float pool Patient Care Nursing Assistant at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Working in the float pool allowed her to experience every floor of the hospital, exposing her a variety of caregivers and scenarios.

Alexa plans to continue working at UH Rainbow through the school year, returning on weekends and school breaks. She credits the UH Future Nurse Academy with not only better preparing her for nursing school, but also helping her manage the day-to-day of working with pediatric patients and their families.
