Longtime UH Physician Honored with Endowed Position
August 27, 2021
For more than 30 years, Richard Stein, MD, Medical Director, UH Suburban Health Center, has treated patients around Northeast Ohio. In recognition of his outstanding patient care, he was recently named the inaugural endowed chair holder of the Monte and Usha Ahuja Chair of Clinical Excellence. Dr. Stein has been the personal physician and medical consultant to the Ahuja family for many years.
“This is one of the greatest honors a physician can receive,” said Dr. Stein. “I’d like to thank the Ahujas for all they’ve done to support UH. They’re an incredible family.”
The endowed chair is part of a transformational gift of more than $10 million from Monte and Usha Ahuja. In addition to the endowed position, the UH health center in Cleveland's MidTown neighborhood will be named UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Ahuja Center for Women & Children in recognition of their support. Made in honor of the Ahuja daughters – Manisha Ahuja Sethi and Ritu Ahuja Khanna – the gift builds on the family's legacy of generosity and community engagement.
Dr. Stein plans to use the funds from the endowed chair to support his time at the new UH COVID-19 recovery clinic at UH Ahuja Medical Center.
“As a rheumatologist, two of my interests are chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, which often follow chronic infections," shared Dr. Stein. "People are now developing these conditions post-COVID. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help them manage these diseases.”
