Rainbow Radiothon Goes Virtual to Support Kids

Rainbow Radiothon can typically be found taking up the entire floor of the Trisha O’Brien Pavilion inside UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. However, due to COVID-19, this inspirational event had to move to a virtual format for the first time.

The switch didn’t faze hosts Jen Toohey and Tim Richards from STAR 102 FM and on December 4, the 18th Annual Rainbow Radiothon raised an incredible $201,475 for patients and families and since its inception, it has raised more than $4.7 million. All proceeds benefit programs and services provided by UH Rainbow that are not traditionally covered by medical insurance.

Presented by Petitti Garden Centers, the signature event brings to listeners remarkable stories of love, hope and compassion featuring Rainbow's young patients and the dedicated staff who care for them.

“Radiothon is one of my absolute favorite events every year,” said Patti DePompei, RN, MSN, President, UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and MacDonald Women’s Hospital, Rainbow Babies & Children's Foundation Chair in Leadership and Innovation. “The families who open up their hearts and share their stories never fail to amaze me. This year’s event necessitated a creative new virtual format, so I’d like to give a special thank you to the UH caregivers, staff and our wonderful supporters who worked so hard to ensure this year’s Radiothon was so successful."
