Iris S. Wolstein

“When Bart achieved success in the business world, it became vital for him to help others and give to the less fortunate. He taught me how to give. I visit the research center to keep in touch with what innovations and discoveries are accomplished there. It is gratifying to learn the impact of that research upon the children participating in the cancer program. They seem to blossom each year.”

- Iris S. Wolstein

The Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein's cancer program, funded through a $1 million endowment established by Iris S. Wolstein in memory of her late husband Bert "Bart" Wolstein, restores the vitality of childhood for young cancer survivors. The program encourages healthy lifestyles, promotes activity and teaches athletic skills. The cancer programs – soccer, swimming, golf, basketball, bowling, cooking and other events – above all help kids be kids. In 2003, prior to Bart’s death, the couple donated $25 million to UH and Case Western Reserve University, lending their name to the Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Research Building. Iris organizes the annual Bertram L. Wolstein Legacy Golf Tournament that attracts hundreds of friends and supporters and benefits the research center. The nine tournaments have thus far raised more than $1.2 million for pediatric cancer research.
