Dear Friends of Ireland Cancer Center,

Five Star Sensation is back! One of the most celebrated events in Cleveland, Five Star supports Ireland Cancer Center of University Hospitals Case Medical Center--one of the top cancer centers in the nation. This year is special, as we watch the daily progress of the new Cancer Hospital. The new Cancer Hospital will serve so many of our patients and the growth of our regional network that provides outstanding care coordinated through Ireland Cancer Center to thousands of individuals across Northern Ohio.

The new Cancer Hospital is the first and only free-standing cancer hospital in our region and will strengthen our leadership as part of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, designated by the National Cancer Institute. Under one roof in the Cancer Hospital, we will provide cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and radiation therapy services. The 150-bed, state-of-the-art facility will also have space for psycho-social support, education, a conference center, and respite spaces for families, including spectacular wellness areas and healing gardens to support the well-being of our patients and families who need to spend time with us.

All of us at Ireland Cancer Center feel honored to serve the community as we support patients and families through difficult illnesses by providing a multi-disciplinary approach to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. This outstanding level of care exists at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and at all of our Ireland Cancer Center regional sites through an extensive informatics network that links all sites to our experts on every patient’s disease. We continue to innovate our highly regarded patient care with the introduction of a Family and Patient Centered Care initiative that includes a patient-based advisory panel and is revolutionizing our entire approach to treatment decisions and follow-up care.

A new registry initiative in survivorship for adult patients who have completed treatment complements an effort at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Our survivorship registry offers patients the assurance that we will keep an eye on them while we provide the newest information about their cancer for years to come.

We greatly value your commitment to us and our responsibility to you. We recently announced a new test for early detection of colon cancer and a second test for GYN cancers, such as endometrial and cervical cancers. Because these tests were developed here, these new screening tests are being offered first to patients in our region. These tests will help us all live longer, healthier lives and help our families. Our program in family cancers emphasizes genetic counseling that informs families of their need for screening and a healthy life style. In the past year we have initiated a number of new clinical trials using drugs discovered at Ireland Cancer Center and Case Western Reserve University, and have continued our exclusive link to the National Cancer Institute as a site for testing new cancer treatments.

We thank you for your commitment and support, and look forward to providing an ever-improving outlook for our patients with cancer. Thank you.

Sincerely,
