Meeting a Community Need
Throughout University Hospitals’ history, we have remained focused on anticipating and meeting our community’s health care needs. Today, this focus fuels our Vision 2010 plans to build the state-of-the-art UH Ahuja Medical Center, designed to meet the current and future health care needs of Cleveland’s surrounding neighborhoods. Scheduled to open in early 2011, UH Ahuja Medical Center was named in honor of UH Board Chairman Monte Ahuja, his wife Usha, and their family, recognizing their extraordinary philanthropic leadership in supporting Vision 2010.

UH Ahuja Medical Center (see rendering of phase I above-right, with future phases shaded; click on photo for close-up image) will be conveniently located on a 53-acre campus near the intersection of I-271 and I-480. It will serve more than 540,000 residents in the surrounding area, providing leading-edge emergency and elective medical and surgical care in an environment designed to promote healing, wellness, and the highest standards of quality and patient safety. Linking to UH's most advanced network of services, the UH Ahuja Medical Center campus will include a 144-bed, seven-story hospital and a 60,000 square-foot medical office building, for a combined 432,000 square feet. Its flexible design will allow two additional towers for a total of 600 beds. Click here to access a gallery of construction photos.

An Unparalleled Experience
UH Ahuja Medical Center will deliver an unparalleled patient and family experience. In choosing everything from UH Ahuja Medical Center’s location and its services, to its environmentally-aware design and distinguishing features, every aspect of patient and community needs has been carefully considered.

Just as important, UH Ahuja Medical Center will attract the best and brightest physicians, nurses and medical technicians capable of making the most dynamic and dramatic contributions to health care. Plans call for a safe, supportive work environment with optimal ergonomic and operational efficiencies, including a “foot-step-sensitive” design to reduce fatigue for nurses and staff and additional features to support employees’ health and wellness.

A Magnet for Economic Investment
UH Ahuja Medical Center will fuel not only exceptional care and service, but also economic investment that benefits the surrounding area and greater community. It will bring good jobs, attract additional medical industry and generate tremendous tax revenues. UH Ahuja Medical Center will also make an architectural and environmental statement as one of a limited number of free-standing hospitals in the nation being developed on “greenfield” space. With an environmentally-sensitive design, UH Ahuja Medical Center will be a source of pride for the community and serve as a model for responsible development of health care facilities.
